Key nutrients in lion’s mane include beta-glucans and hericenones. Due to high quality growing conditions, our lion’s mane contains over 30% of soluble beta-glucans and 1.6mg of erinacine A per 1-gram serving.

Hericenones are bioactive compounds unique to lion’s mane. Erinacine A, in particular, has garnered significant attention due to its potential neuroprotective and neuroregenerative effects.

Erinacine A has been studied for its ability to stimulate the production of nerve growth factors (NGF) in the brain. NGF plays a crucial role in the growth, maintenance, and survival of neurons. By promoting NGF synthesis, erinacine A may support nerve cell regeneration, enhance neuroplasticity, and potentially contribute to cognitive function and neurological health.

It's important to note that while erinacine A has shown promising effects in preclinical studies, further research, including human studies, is still needed to fully understand its mechanisms of action and therapeutic potential.

Lion’s mane has many alternative names, including ‘satyr’s beard’, ‘pom pom mushroom’ and ‘bearded hedgehog mushroom’. Our favorite, though, is ‘yamabushitake’. This name translates to ‘those who sleep in the mountains’, and refers to the Shugendo sect of hermit monks, who live in the mountains and wear long, white, flowing robes.
